Isn’t this patriotic fabric adorable?
One of the many great things about the art licensing biz is the amazing friends you meet along the way. I made this square July 4th fabric wreath to showcase the new patriotic fabric designed by my friend Laura Kelly (America the Beautiful by General Fabrics exclusively for Jo-Ann Fabrics). Along with more than 20 other designers and hosted by Laura and Jen Goode at 100 Directions, the I Love the USA Blog Hop will be sharing DIY inspiration all week long! Plus, there are prizes to be won (details at bottom). Awesome, right?
Supplies:
- 12″ square wreath form I cut from a larger STYROFOAM sheet. (You could use a ready-made form as well)
- Laura Kelly Patriotic Fabric
- Denim and Canvas fabric, cut into strips
- red ribbon
- red embroidery floss
- blue and red acrylic paint (Plaid)
- white stamping ink (Clearsnap)
- Fabric enhancer (Phoomph)
- liquid glue (Fabri-Tac, by Beacon Adhesives)
- blue star button (Buttons Galore & More)
- small unfinished wood sign
- fabric scissors
- small paintbrushes
Instructions:
Cover square wreath form with “America the Beautiful” patriotic fabric, wrapping fabric around sides, trimming excess, and securing on reverse side with Fabri-Tac. Cut an X in fabric from center of square to inner corners of wreath form. Glue strip of denim fabric to cover inside thickness of wreath form, then fold and glue triangles of patriotic fabric around center thickness.
Roll 3 fabric flowers from strips of denim and one flower from strips of canvas. Glue to bottom right corner of wreath form as shown. Glue ribbon bow with star button center to canvas flower. Paint wooden sign blue, add words with Crafter’s Ink. Draw heart with red paint. Hang sign from button center.
Cut strip of “America the Beautiful” text from patriotic fabric. Glue to denim strip and trim edges to create banner. Wrap ends with embroidery floss and secure on reverse with Fabri-Tac. Glue to top left inside corner of wreath. Attach additional length of red ribbon to reverse of wreath to hang.

This is such a cute wreath, and how clever to make it a square. I love that you can make it any size and shape you want with the sheet of Styrofoam brand foam. Happy summer!

Love how your project turned out, fun festive and the details are lovely! Thank you so much for sharing your creative talents for this event!

I love the square wreath!! I would only make one small change: cut out pieces of the main fabric to place on the inside corners instead of the denim. It doesn’t really matter either way, but I like the inside to be all the same fabric 🙂

Laura, that was my first inclination too. I couldn’t get the Peeps (the people) to line up well enough to be happy with the outcome, and I was out of town with no easy access to more fabric. So I switched to the denim and rolled with it. Great eye!

I love this! You could even hang a little flag inside the square or make a “firework” to hang in there! TFS!

Do I love the USA? That’s an understatement! We plan to celebrate as a family this year. My brother-in-law is finally home from deployment and my stepfather is coming in from TX, to meet up with my son and I, my sister, her husband and their 4 beautiful children to have a family cookout/party with games for the kids and decorations. I’m so excited because I just bought a bunch of stuff yesterday at Target for our cookout! Cute little burger baskets and the liners all in bright colors, some paper lanterns, skewers for marshmallows, etc! Can’t wait! It has been a while since we have been able to have a get together with all of us together.
