Love-Themed Cake Stand
Looking for a love-themed cake or cupcake stand for Valentine’s Day or an anniversary? Why not make one from terra-cotta flower pots? A red and white striped cake stand is one of those pieces that is worth keeping around the house. It works for several holidays and multiple party themes, with just a change in trim. In fact, this cake stand used to look very different!
Originally designed as a Dr. Seuss-Inspired Cake Stand (which includes the full tutorial for painting this red and white stand), I gave these painted terra cotta pots a Valentine’s Day update.
Switching from whimsical Seuss to sweet hearts couldn’t be much easier. I simply removed the blue feather boa trim and attached some hand-cut cardstock hearts to the rim using removable adhesive dots, then glued a heart ribbon bow to the front. Then, I painted a chipboard X and O (from my stash) using red and pink acrylic paint and glued them to the center of my bow for an extra added detail.

I paired my love-themed cake stand with pink and red printable cupcake decorations from the Stripes & Dots Party Kits, and layered cardstock hearts in the center of the toppers to match the hearts on the rim. That’s it, I told you it was easy!
Using repositionable adhesive allows for an easy transition between themes and multiple uses for one decoration. Plus, making the original cake stand took less than 15 minutes, and changing the theme took less than 10, including cutting the hearts. Hooray for decorations that can be used more than once!

Until next time..
